The pRESUS programme was designed by paediatric trainees in the Wessex Deanery to provide near-peer education and simulation training to medical and nursing students.
A 3 stage ‘SET, SIM, TEACH’ approach was developed and is delivered over 2 sessions during the students’ placement in child health.

The sessions revise basic life support, ensure students recognise when and how to call for help in their local trust and cover acute management of emergency paediatric presentations. Simulation scenarios are curriculum mapped and can be run in-situ or in a designated sim-suite.
Each session includes a comprehensive debrief and integrated teaching including signposting to relevant resources.

An interactive lecture is delivered and includes small group work and the use of online resources such as the 3 minute toolkit from 'Spotting the Sick Child' The session is closed with a practical basic life support refresher session |

Simulations are designed and mapped to student curricula
