High-fidelity simulation is a rapidly growing area of under-graduate medical education. However, despite children accounting for 40% of patients seen in primary care and 22% of ED attendances, undergraduate simulation programmes usually focus on adult patients. The pRESUS course was developed to address this issue and aims to improve patient safety by ’ensuring students develop a robust system for assessing acutely unwell children throughout medical school and on day one as a qualified health care professional’.
The course has been designed by and is run by paediatric trainees across the Wessex deanery. It is currently running in the following hospitals:
